If you’re interested in manifesting, chances are you’ve come across the Law of Attraction. This Law states that our thoughts control our reality, and the energy we send out eventually comes back to us in the form of people, situations and things.
This is a very powerful law that is gaining more and more popularity. Ask someone who’s into manifestation about the Law of Attraction and, chances are, they’ll know exactly what you’re talking about.
The Law of Attraction, however, has a close sibling which often gets overshadowed, though it is just as, or maybe even more important. This law is called, the Law of Assumption.
What is the Law of Assumption?
“If you will assume your desire and live there as though it were true, no power on earth can stop it from becoming a fact.”
-Neville Goddard
The Law of Assumption states that your beliefs and assumptions create your reality. What this means is that when you assume that you already have your desire, it must come into physical form. This is because your 3D reality is only a reflection of your inner self. Everything you perceive outside of you is just a projection of your emotions, beliefs, thoughts and energies which get sent out and reflected back onto you in the form of ‘reality’.
Many people have difficulty manifesting what they want because they are focused on trying to change the 3D, and they don’t understand that it is only a reflection.
For example, if you wanted to change the way you looked, you wouldn’t try to change the mirror; instead, you would work on changing yourself. The same concept applies here. If you wish to change your outward reality you must first change your inner reality.
This is where the Law of Assumption comes in. When it comes to manifesting, many people get stuck in the idea of ‘doing.’ They get stuck in the process of manifesting which counters the belief that you already have what you want. When you say, “I am manifesting [fill in the blank]” you are affirming out into the universe that you are currently in the process of getting what you want and that you do not yet have it.
You might think, “well, I don’t really have it yet if I don’t see it. It’s not in my physical reality.” The thing is, you must first believe it to be already yours before it can manifest. That’s the tricky part. It’s not about lying to yourself, but about changing your beliefs and understanding that you get to decide what type of life you wish to have.
Once you decide that it is done, it’s done! You have shifted your inner reality, and it’s only a matter of time before your outer reality reflects your truth.
The Law of Assumption is all about living in the end. It’s about assuming the feelings, behaviors and thoughts of the wish fulfilled. Let’s say for example that you want to look a certain way, in order to fully utilize the Law of Assumption you would clearly picture what you wish to look like and feel exactly what that version of you would feel. How would they feel, how would they act, how would they think?
Chances are, that version of you that has exactly what you want, wouldn’t be ‘trying’ to manifest it. Why would you try and manifest what you already have?
That’s why there are so many stories about people who manifest so easily and effortlessly without even thinking about their desires. It’s because they assume the emotions of their desires and let it go. They don’t have to grasp on tightly to their desires because they already have them.
For instance, if in the past you were very self-conscious and wished to manifest a more confident personality, you would assume this version of yourself and think like them. When you looked in the mirror, you would think positively and feel confident because it’s already done!
This is the difficult part for a lot of people. They get caught up in the act of trying to get somewhere, but the thing is, you don’t have to try and get your desires because they’re already yours! This is the type of mentality you need to adopt in order to easily manifest what you want.
Once you assume what you want, you release blockages and easily begin to shift your 3D reality.
You don’t have to do anything
When it comes to the Law of Assumption, you don’t have to do anything. This doesn’t mean you just sit around waiting for something to happen, overlooking opportunities; but it does mean that you shouldn’t be feeling any dragging or resistance. If you do feel called to do something, it should be because you feel inspired to do so. While manifesting what you want, you should never feel forced to do anything. Manifesting isn’t meant to feel like work. It’s meant to be fun!
When using this law, there is no need to repeat affirmations constantly or to use extensive manifestation techniques. Of course, you can if you want, if you feel called to and if you feel excited to do so, by all means do it! This is your intuition guiding you and it’s up to you to listen, but it’s not something that is required for you to manifest what you want.
You don’t even have to visualize your desires. This can be helpful, especially if you’re feeling inspired to, but it’s not required. Everything you do in order to manifest your desires, should all be inspired action. This means you should do what feels right to you, what you feel excited for and what you feel inspired to do. When it comes to manifesting, you should never have to force yourself to do anything.
In our society, we’re taught that we have to work hard in order to get what we want and that nothing in life comes easy. Working hard it a wonderful thing, especially if you enjoy your work, and it can bring many rewards. Work hard, if you feel inclined to do so. If you’re in a state of passion, that’s your soul guiding you to fulfil your highest good. However, when you feel forced to do something, you’re not doing yourself or anyone else any favors.
Life doesn’t have to be hard. This is an assumption, and assumptions can be changed. Manifesting can be an incredibly easy and enjoyable thing to do if you believe it.
It’s funny how people tend to say “I’ll believe it when I see it” when it should really be the opposite. You’ll see it when you believe it. When you assume it, it will come.
Feeling is the Key
A wonderful technique to try is to put on some music that reminds you of what you desire and lay down and imagine it for a while. Try your best to feel the emotions you would have if you’ve already achieved your desires. Once you assume these emotions, your desires are already done.
Think of it like this, why do you want your desires in the first place? You want them for the feelings they will give you. When you are able to feel those emotions in the now, the whole purpose of your desire is already completed.
It’s important to stay consistent and to be persistent in assuming your desires. It’s not always easy to feel your desires in every moment of your day, but the longer you assume those emotions, the more your reality begins to shift in order to align itself with your belief which has now become “I have what I want” and it becomes only a matter of time before you see it in your physical reality.
Get out of the process

Another reason people fail to manifest what they want is because they get stuck in the process of manifesting.
When you use the Law of Assumption, you begin at the end. You don’t have to do anything because it’s already done and so there is no process because you already have it.
Once you shift your energy from the “I’m getting” to “I have”, the universe begins to deliver what you want easily and effortlessly because your beliefs create your reality.
Go on a Mental Cleanse
Your attention is one of the most powerful tools you have because what you focus on for long periods of time manifests into your physical reality. Too often, people get mentally consumed on things that take them further away from what they want and is one of the reasons they struggle to manifest their desires.
Going on a mental diet means being constantly aware of where you are placing your attention. It might be difficult at first, constantly monitoring your thoughts, but once you get into the habit of doing so, it becomes easier and you begin to become more aware of where you are placing your attention.
Be grateful for what you want
Think how you would think if you already had your desires. If you wanted a certain car, would you constantly be thinking of wanting that car? No! If you did think of your car, it would most likely to be how much you love it and how grateful you are for it.
Being grateful for what you want sends out signals to the universe that you are in the state of having what you desire. When you feel grateful for your desires, even if they are not yet in your 3D reality, you are aligning yourself with the vibration of receiving. When you are in this vibrational state, you’ll find your manifestations appearing quicker and more easily into your life.
It might be difficult to be grateful for what you want, especially if your mind is pointing out ‘hey, we don’t actually have that yet’ but the more you work at it, the easier it will become.
Affirmations are a great way to start feeling more gratitude. Gratitude affirmations are even better. Sometimes saying ‘I have [fill in the blank]’ doesn’t work so well for some people because their limiting beliefs interrupt their affirmations and quickly point out that they don’t actually have these things. This can sometimes cause them to feel as though they are lying to themselves. Gratitude affirmations are a great alternative. When you are grateful for something, you attract more of it into your life; and the best part is, you don’t have to actually have something in your life to be grateful for it.
When you express gratitude, the part of your mind that is trying to convince you that you’re lying to yourself, gets quieter. For example, even if you don’t have a certain type of car, you can still admire it and be grateful for it. Try being in this vibrational state for a while, you might be surprised how quickly your desires come to you once you are grateful for them.
Have fun with it
Manifesting is meant to be fun. It’s a game, but many people take it far too seriously. When you take manifestation too seriously, it loses its sense of play and suddenly it starts to feel like work. When this happens, blockages and stagnation can occur and your desires can become more and more difficult to manifest.
If you find yourself too serious, try taking a step back. Take a break, and when you feel inclined to do so, come back with a fresh mind. Having a new perspective, as well as releasing old habits and beliefs can be more helpful than trying to push yourself to succeed.
One of the easiest ways to use the Law of Assumption is to connect with our inner child. When we are kids, our imagination runs wild. We can do anything, be anyone, and go anywhere. Try allowing yourself to feel this joy and freedom once again. Play with your imagination and watch as it begins to shape the reality around you.
When manifesting with the Law of Assumption, there’s only one thing to remember: You already have it, so now it’s time to act like it!
